Functions of Polyacrylamide Flocculants

In the Papermaking Industry:Polyacrylamide flocculants are essential in the papermaking industry for improving paper quality and production efficiency. They enhance pulp dewatering, increase retention of fine fibers and fillers, and reduce raw material consumption and environmental pollution. By acting as dispersants, they ensure uniform paper consistency and boost filler and pigment retention, which minimizes material waste and lowers pollution. Polyacrylamide also accelerates paper dehydration and improves filtration efficiency, enhancing overall paper strength and reducing fiber loss in white water.

In Medical Materials:Polyacrylamide flocculants play a key role in medical materials, especially in chromatographic applications. They are used as gel column fillers for effective separation of spherical proteins like cytochrome. Polyacrylamide is also utilized in synthesizing chiral ligand resins for amino acid separation. By coordinating with copper ions, these resins facilitate the efficient separation of various amino acids, particularly aromatic ones, due to the hydrophilic nature of the polyacrylamide structure, which significantly reduces separation times.
